Now that all of the finishing prep work is done, we are ready to start putting shellac on the guitar. We use a small cloth to rub very thin layers (and layers and layers) onto each surface of the guitar. These layers will eventually build on themselves, creating one thicker, shiny layer of finish! The process of rubbing shellac over the entire guitar takes about 2 days.
We try to time the finish work so that the end of those shellac-rubbing days coincides with the beginning of the weekend. Then, we let the finish spend a couple of days hardening before we glue on the bridge and continue setting up the guitar.
